It’s from this gorgeous location that a small team of skilled bakers produces a uniquely exquisite organic biscuit. One that quickly outpaced all other products produced by Island Bakery; subsequently refined and improved into today’s compact yet quintessentially characterful collection.

Organic Indulgence from the Hebrides

The history of Island Bakery dates back to 1994, when a pair of fresh faced University of Edinburgh graduates decided to start making their own artisan bread products out of an old garage. As the local baker (the only one in the area at the time) was retiring, the island needed someone to step in and fill his shoes.

By 1996, the pair had reached an easy conclusion; there was far more demand for their heavenly organic biscuits than their bread.

Decent bread was already available from a fair few places. And so they decided to focus heavily on making increasingly moreish biscuits. This led to the bread baking side of their business being closed entirely in 2007, enabling the team to invest all their time and effort in the art of biscuit making.

The rest, as they say, is history. Today’s Island Bakery was born, and so was its stellar lineup of sweet and savoury snacks. Their cheese biscuits and oatcakes are particularly fantastic, though they’ve honestly never put out anything that isn’t an absolute winner!
